The Cream of the Crop...

29. 02. 2012

Here is a set of three advertisements for Dairy Farmers I did in my last semester of University.

The brief was to prepare three magazine advertisements for the brand chosen by your group that are creative, individual and are appropriate to the brands positioning and standing in the market place.

I was really pleased with how they turned out. I just set up a white sheet of paper against the wall and photographed the dairy products using natural light, simple but effective! I had an assistant (Rich) help me with pouring the milk and holding the spoons!

My ads focus on Dairy Farmers being the best, which explains the headings:
(If you are interested in the body copy, I have included one down the bottom.)

Read me, read me...

24. 02. 2012

A while ago I mentioned I was designing training resource booklets for a company called Suvee! WELL that section of my designing life has almost come to an end. I have completed almost all of the resource and assessment booklets. At the beginning of this design adventure I hated InDesign and now... well, It's my best friend!!! Here are the lovely books:

It has been an amazing experience, and It is going to lead to greater things! Suvee had a meeting with the printing company today, turns out the company is looking for a graphic designer. So I rang up Sunne printing straight away and scored an interview for next friday - thank goodness Suvee put a good word in for me! Fingers crossed everything works out!

Boy oh boy!

18. 02. 2012

My friend is having a baby shower this weekend, so this was the perfect chance to put my design skills into play! I LOVE making cards, ever since I was little I would make cards every chance I got. I even had a little card making business where people would buy my cards for $5! Nothing has changed, I still love making cards!

SO, this card I made for my friend is quite funny. I went to a website called 'Morph Thing', where you upload two images and the website morphs them together to show you what your baby might look like. So I uploaded two images, one of Matt and one of Cara and this is what it came up with, so cute:

Using this image as the basis for my card, I used Adobe Illustrator to create a cute little M.J card.

For the baby shower, one of the games we are playing is called 'Pin the Nappy on M.J.' I bought some thick card and drew a cartoon version of M.J. (As I'm not good at cartoons I used an image online as a reference from cartoon solutions ) I painted M.J. and then outlined him. I even made little blue nappies to pin on.

Totally 90's..

16. 02. 2012

Not long ago 'The Roost Creative' in Newcastle had an exhibit entitled 'Totally 90's'.

The Brief:
Make a poster inspired by the decade that was the 90’s. Get nostalgic! Can you remember Kid n Play, Mortal Kombat, TLC, Round-the-Twist, Rocko’s Modern Life, Encino Man, Daria? Let these and any other cherished memories be your ammo for making the ‘freshest’, ‘radest’ and ‘dopest’ poster on the block.

I was born in 1990, so I am a 90's kid!! It would have to be my favourite decade! Growing up in the 90's was great:

  • Cassette players were soon replaced by the Discman
  • The first CD came out when I was 6.
  • We got a computer and the internet when I was 10
  • Mum's mobile was the size of a house brick
  • I loved Barbies and Cabbage Patch dolls and had every Yowie and Tazo you could collect
  • Double denim was SO in and who could forget butterfly clips???

So here is my 90's inspired poster, which features a Tamagotchi, a Troll doll and a Furby!

' An Era of Unique Toys' - The 90's

This design was hand generated in Adobe Illustrator and took a very, very, very, very, VERY long time.

Drawing in a new light

11. 02. 2012

I recently got a graphics tablet to make life easier for myself. Seeing as I'm going to be a graphic designer for the rest of my life I thought I should invest in something to help me get the job done!

Having never used a tablet before..... It seriously is AMAZING, and so accurate with all my movements and the pressure of my movements - how hard or soft I press, It minics drawing incredibly, it even feels like I'm drawing!!! Except this way I'm saving paper.

The tablet I bought is called a BAMBOO FUN PEN AND TOUCH generation 3. It works as a mouse/ touch pad and I can use the pen on it as well. There are buttons on the left that you can customise! It just blew me away!! It comes in 2 sizes and I would reccomend it to anyone. The pen itself has an eraser on the end... that you can acutually use as an eraser, its so incredible!!

Here is an artwork by Bill Flemming that I used as a reference to create my first drawing using the tablet on Photoshop. Below is my result! I'm still trying to get used to it, but the possibilities are endless with this tool!
